Skagen Men’s 233XLTMB Titanium Watch

Skagen Men's 233XLTMB Titanium Watch
Presenting a classic design fused with fresh details, this Skagen Men’s Titanium Watch #233XLTMB features a dramatic black dial face, which is encased by a mineral dial window for extra protection. For your time-telling convenience, white Arabic numerals bring a stand-out contrast, an additional ring of Arabic numerals provide a 24-hour clock, and a handy date calendar rests at the six o’clock position. A black titanium band comes equipped with a sturdy fold-over-clasp-with-safety closure, and both the bezel and 39-millimeter case are made of ultra-durable titanium. The perfect accessory for work or for play, this striking timepiece showcases your refined taste. Powered by Japanese quartz movement, this watch is water resistant up to 99 feet and is protected by a limited-lifetime manufacturer’s warranty.

I’ve owned this watch for about three years and really like it. I spend my spare time on things as widely varied as electronics to automotive work, carpentry, wood carving, and the like, and this watch is on my wrist from morning to night regardless of my activities. It’s thin, lightweight, and has held up pretty well. The case diameter is a bit large for my (tiny) wrist, but not so much that it looks odd. The case and mesh band are very durable and show little to know scratches or wear, but the black finish has worn almost completely off the clasp. I replaced the battery yesterday, and will be sending the watch to Skagen for replacement of the crystal which developed a crack that starts at about the 11 and runs around to about the 3 – it almost follows the inner silver ring. I don’t recall specifically what caused the crack (I noticed it one morning about a year ago) but looking at my hobbies, it’s entirely possible that I whacked it on something. Even with the cracked crystal it’s held up pretty well, there’s no moisture intrusion or anything and it keeps time extremely well. The only thing that would make me like this watch more would be either a larger number for the date or a magnifying “bubble” over the tiny number. It’s eye-catching in its thinness and people tend to inquire about its manufacturer and where they can get one.

Casio Men’s AQ160W-1BV Ana-Digi Electro-Luminescent Sport Watch

May 14th, 2010 | Casio | No Comments »

Casio Men's AQ160W-1BV Ana-Digi Electro-Luminescent Sport Watch
A great choice for sporty world travelers, this Casio analog-digital stainless steel watch offers a stylish black sports resin band that will stay comfortable during your most active sport outings. The round silver stainless steel watch case features a black bezel framing a black dial face with dagger-style hands and small Arabic numeral display with small minute indexes. The center of the face sports a large digital readout that provides a view to a second time zone–a great feature for globetrotters. It offers an integrated world time function with 29 time zones (27 cities), city code display, and daylight saving on/off. Other timekeeping features include:

  • 1/100-second stopwatch with a 60 hour capacity, featuring elapsed time lap time, split time, 1st-2nd place times
  • Countdown timer with 60-minute range
  • Auto Calendar (pre-programmed until the year 2039)
  • 12/24 hour formats
  • 4 Daily Alarms and 1 snooze alarm

Other features include ±30-second accuracy per month, Afterglow backlighting, and water resistance to 100 meters (330 feet)–offering protection from accidental splashes as well suitable for swimming, snorkeling, and light recreational diving.

Let me start by saying that I REALLY loved this watch. I no longer have it because I left it on the pool deck and someone snagged it but I wore it daily for over a year and although I own 6 watches, this was my favorite everyday wear.

Pros
Really cool design
Readable
Neat graphics
Battery life lasted until I lost it (over a year)
Intuitive settings
Good nightglow
CHEAP

Cons
The band is relatively small. Most watches I wear about halfway on the notches. This was I was second to last and my wrist is NOT that big.
The face scratches easily

If it hadn’t been for how easily the face scratches, I would have given this 5 stars no question. It’s the least I’ve ever paid for a watch and also my favorite. Go figure

Nautica Men’s N19509G NST Chronograph Watch

Nautica Men's N19509G NST Chronograph Watch
Quartz movement, Casual watch, Luminous hands and hour markers, Silver-tone numbers, White small numbers and indices, Analog date display, Blue outer concave ring is embossed with a white tachymeter ruler, Brushed stainless steel silver-tone unidirectional bezel is engraved with black numbers and indices and is set with a luminous accent, Brushed/polished stainless steel silver-tone case, Brushed stainless steel screw-down crown and selector buttons, Polished stainless steel screw-in caseback, 100 meters/330 feet water resistant

The Nautica Men’s NST Chronograph Watch is designed with a speed-tracking tachymeter and three chronograph subdials for enhanced utility. Constructed with a stainless steel case, the watch includes a unidirectional stainless steel bezel with Arabic numeral minute markers and a stainless steel link bracelet with a push-button-fold-over clasp. A durable mineral window shields the blue dial, which features eye-catching white hour markers and silver-tone Arabic numerals at two, four, eight, 10, and 12 o’clock. A white tachymeter encircles the dial, which also includes silver-tone watch hands, three chronograph subdials, and a discreet date calendar at four o’clock. Powered by chronograph movement, the watch is water resistant to 330 feet.

First impression of the watch was that it was very well made. One thing I wish was different was having the controls placed on the left side. This is a big watch so they will dig into the top of your hand if you are like me and wear it on the left hand. If you wear it on the right hand, this isn’t an issue. After wearing it for a few days, I did not seem to have this issue and the watch became very comfortable. We’ll see how long the battery lasts and if it holds up over the next few months.

You will have to unscrew the middle knob first before pulling on it to change the date or time. Don’t go pulling on it and wonder why it won’t come out.

Overall this is a great watch. It looks so much better than the pictures online. You will not be disappointed.

It took me over a year to find a watch and this was the one I decided on. I’m glad I did.

Citizen Men’s BM8180-03E Eco-Drive Canvas Strap Watch

May 12th, 2010 | Citizen | No Comments »

Citizen Men's BM8180-03E Eco-Drive Canvas Strap Watch
You will never run late with this men’s sporty, Eco-Drive timepiece. From the stainless steel case, green canvas strap and 12/24 hour time indicator, the bold details never end. Additional features include a day/date indicator and water resistance to 100 meters.

To set the time *(refer to full-setting instructions here: Manual ):

  1. Stop the second hand by pulling the crown out to the 2nd click (time setting position).
  2. Turn the crown to set the time.
  3. The watch will start after the crown is firmly pushed back into its normal position

To set the Calendar*:

  1. Pull the crown out to the first click (calendar setting position).
  2. Set the desired date by turning the crown counterclockwise.
  3. Set the desired day of the week by turning the crown clockwise.
  4. After you have set the calendar, be sure to press the crown back to its normal position

*Do not adjust the calendar when the watch is reading between 9:00 pm and 4:00 am, otherwise the movement may become damaged and the calendar may not change correctly

After looking at almost 100 watches on Amazon, and closely at 6, I chose the Citizen Eco-Drive BM8180 because it met, and exceeded, the adjectives I applied to it in this review’s title. I closely considered the similar Eco-Drive field chronograph, 2 Seikos (both ‘field’ styled, and both automatics), a Bulova, a Stuhrling, and an Invicta. It is the Citizen BM8180 for me (I have had the BM8180 for almost two months now), for these reasons, and in despite the one caveat:

*Traditional materials & old-fashioned proven design. A solid steel case and back, and glass/mineral crystal, along with the ‘plain’ black dial and simple numerals. Details like the crown guards and a claw-screw back emphasize a handsome, well-made timepiece. Also carries a 5-year parts & labor warranty (and a 20-year warranty on the ‘power cell’).

*Eco-Drive: no batteries, no ‘winding’ dependent on how active I am (and automatics all deviate at least 1 minute plus per month below the 0 and up range). Solar-powered quartz movement, so just “set it & forget it.” I am a bit nocturnal, so to be on the safe side I set the watch on the windowsill for an hour of mostly direct sun once a week, which should keep it fully topped off at all times. Any source of artificial light is also fine (incandescent, fluorescent, halogen, even a REALLY large candelabra will do it!).

*Feels great and very substantial in my hand, on my wrist, and when setting.

*A very good, known maker, and at a price so low I want to tell people I paid MORE (I paid US, March 2010)!

*And more than a little: a remarkably high & consistent rating on Amazon. It is indeed very rare to see any item on Amazon receive such high marks and comments, with so few negatives, over such a long period of time. I have been an Amazon customer since 1998 and bought watches, cameras, computer equipment, pens, books, CDs, DVDs, audio equipment, flashlights, small hand tools, luggage, and who knows what else, and I can’t remember another item that so nearly universally gave it’s purchasers here such a strong positive experience.

*Setting the watch is easy, straightforward, and mostly intuitive, except for the warning not to set day/date between 9pm and 4am, which has to do with mechanical workings internally, and is not any inconvenience. A few people have not read either the Amazon product page or any of Citizen documentation, and have damaged their timepieces. So just don’t be an impatient dope.

*The only caveat or negative I’d offer I don’t find an issue, myself. The band is tightly-woven OD green canvas with a sewn black leather backing (another mark of quality old-school manufacture). The solid steel grommets are large. It is stiff at first. After 2 weeks it loosened and lengthened about 3mm. I have pretty thick wrists and I am on hole 2, even 3 on some days. It is a good looking, substantial band. I like it.

*All the other things: it keeps good time, losing just slightly more than 1 second in 9 weeks, which makes it 5-6 seconds deviant a YEAR. There is no backlight, but the hands glow legibly for 30 minutes or more after lights out. It is perfectly silent, even pressed tightly to my ear. The day function reads out alternatively in spanish, if you like or need it to. The requirements for light recharge are modest and will be easy to meet or exceeded by nearly everyone who wears this watch. 100 meter water resistance, which will be retained, unlike watches that must be opened every 2-3 years to replace the battery, thus ruining their real water resistance unless repacked by a pro for $$. The Citizen docs are clear, easy to read, and extensive.

All in all, I give this watch an unreserved strong recommendation, a 5-star item for certain. I was prepared to hate the band and replace it right away, and the BM8180 would still have been a 4+ star. So for a handsome, solid, dependable, and inexpensive watch, you can’t go wrong here.

Timex Men’s T2H281 Easy Reader Black Leather Strap Silver-Tone Case Watch

May 11th, 2010 | Timex | No Comments »

Timex Men's T2H281 Easy Reader Black Leather Strap Silver-Tone Case Watch
This Timex Watch (but not any battery, crystal, band, or strap) is warranted to the owner for a period of ONE YEAR from the date of purchase against defects in manufacture by Timex Corporation. Timex will not repair defects relating to servicing not performed by Timex Corporation. This limited warranty applies to US Customers.

Fashionable for any occasion, the Timex T2H291 silver-tone stainless steel watch features an easily readable dial with mid Arabic numeral display against a classic white dial background. It offers a full-sized, round watch case with slightly raised bezel and a supple, genuine leather strap in black. It also features water resistance to 30 meters (99 feet), 10-year battery life, and date display at 3 o’clock. With the Quick Date function, you can set the date on the watch without turning the crown for every 24-hour period. Just pull the stem halfway out, and turn until desired date is reached.

The Indiglo night-light uniformly lights the surface of the watch dial using patented blue electroluminescent lighting technology. It uses less battery power than most other watch illumination systems, enabling your watch battery to last longer.

The Timex easy reader watch is a perfect beginners watch for everyday use for those who don’t want anything fancy. The watch is very comfortable to wear and is very lightweight. It includes the indiglo nightlight for use in dark areas, a simple feature that many watches don’t have. The only problem I have with the watch is the leather band is a little on the long side and it is very thin not as the picture shows. I plan on replacing the band soon. Overall I recommend this watch for basic everyday use it is probably the best one on the market.

Casio Men’s MDV102-1AV Sea Analog Illuminator Dual LED Dive Watch

May 11th, 2010 | Casio | No Comments »

Casio Men's MDV102-1AV Sea Analog Illuminator Dual LED Dive Watch
This Casio Sea analog illuminator watch offers all the convenience and durability of a sports watch, with an adaptable style well suited for a work day. The large round dial is black with white and luminous indexes, two luminous hands, and a red arrow-tipped seconds hand. The black stainless steel bezel offers additional Arabic numeral and dot indexes and a one-way rotation to make timing easy. The bezel’s distinctive cog-like edge also gives the watch a stylishly industrial edge. The date displays subtly at four o’clock, and a super illuminator light makes the watch easy to read at any time. The band is made out of rugged black resin with a buckle clasp. This analog quartz powered timepiece is water resistant up to 660 feet (200 meters) and offers a battery life of approximately three years.

I bought this watch based on the reviews I read on Amazon. I wanted an everyday beater, because it’s so inexpensive I can afford to buy a replacement if I destroy it (unlike my other watches). I also, like several other reviewers here, agree the actual product is much better looking in person than in the pictures. I find it hard to believe this is a sub-0 watch. The timekeepings is accurate, the LED’s are very bright, setting the time/date was very easy, I didn’t need to look at the instruction booklet. The Casio (mystery substance) band however, sucks. I’m keeping it as a back-up, but I highly recommend the Modena 22mm rubber strap several other reviewers have mentioned here. Amazon offers this watch, and this Modena band, as a bundled purchase. I wore the watch for two days, then switched out the Casio band for the Modena…a GINORMOUS difference!!! The Modena band classes this watch up, it’s comfortable and it has a sturdy, secure stainless steel deployment clasp in place of a buckle. All of my expensive watches have bands with deployment clasps. I gave five stars for the watch, because that is what I was buying, after all. Bands can be changed on a whim. Buy this watch, you won’t regret it.

Invicta Men’s 4342 Russian Diver Collection Black Watch

May 10th, 2010 | Invicta | No Comments »

Invicta Men's 4342 Russian Diver Collection Black Watch
The Russian Diver Watch by Invicta is a powerful black and silver timepiece done in a canteen style with a screw-cap crown and chain. The luminous hands and indexes make it easy to read the time, and the adjustable buckle on the comfy band make for a good fit. Featuring large Arabic numbers and a convenient date display just under 12 o’clock, the grand 52 millimeter stainless steel case frames the black dial with the notable Russian Diver logo in place of 12 o’clock. Water resistant to 330 feet, this eye-catcher will have people noticing, especially when paired with jeans and a t-shirt.

I’ve had my watch now for 2 weeks, and simply love it (particularly price). It’s huge, awesome, and gets noticed. At night, it can be read from a mile away.

The size and wight don’t bother me, nor do i even notice the crown chain. I wouldn’t recommend for people with smaller than a 7″ wrist, or larger than 8″. Because of the weight, I wear it high on the wrist so that the crown doesn’t dig into my hand any more than absolutely necessary. This makes the fit rather snug. My wrist is 7.5″ and I wear it on the second to last hole. Because of the extreme down slope of the straps (where they attach to the lugs), the fit is rather snug even when i loosen it to the last hole. Buckling/un-buckling can be a trick, the straps are very stiff. For me, it is NOT an all-day watch for sure. I posted a picture so you can see it on a normal wrist size (the other pictures were of someone with a skinny wrist).

I seems to be adequate as a recreational or backup dive watch; however, it doesn’t have a rotating bezel. I figure I can simply set the watch to 12-Noon when i dive…problem solved. I do worry about the depth rating a bit, but have not had problems with 100m watches in the past…and hopefully the 5yr warranty will be honored if i do have a moisture issue.

Casio Men’s AWG100-1A G-Shock Multi-Band Solar Atomic Analog Watch

May 8th, 2010 | Casio | No Comments »

Casio Men's AWG100-1A G-Shock Multi-Band Solar Atomic Analog Watch
The Casio Men’s G-Shock Multi-Band Atomic Solar Analog Watch #AWG100-1A features a dramatic black dial face, which comes encased by a sturdy mineral dial window. Embellishing the face, stand-out indexes bring at-a-glance readability while a day-date-and-month calendar, a daily alarm, and a countdown timer enhance your timekeeping experience. The sleek, black resin band comes equipped with a durable buckle closure. Other details include a stationary resin bezel and 45-millimeter stainless steel case. Blending sporty looks with a technical efficiency, this stunning timepiece is built to accentuate your sophisticated style. Powered by analog-quartz movement, this watch is also water resistant to 660 feet.

This is my second G-Shock watch, and it was exactly what I expected. It is a high end sport watch. I bought this because I kill nice watches (at least the ones that can be had for 0 or less), but the G-Shocks appear to stand the abuse of spending 8 hours a day on my wrist at work with no complaints. Except for a brief period after daylight savings time starts, its always accurate due to the atomic clock signal. Even the bands are specially made to be tougher than normal (which is why I’ve never broken one, a rarity for me if not a miracle), the huge (and kind of ugly) rubber-over-metal bumper keeps the face from getting scratched which is good for me as well. This is also a solar powered watch, and my last one is still going strong after more than 4 years, so I can safely say battery life is excellent. The analog display is easy to read day and night, but the extra light is an old pre-indiglo type. I don’t really use all the extra bells and whistles, and it’s still a little drab looking. On the whole though, its nicer than many sport watches, and won’t break.

Invicta Men’s 3449 Corduba Collection Oversized Chronograph Watch

May 7th, 2010 | Invicta | No Comments »

Invicta Men's 3449 Corduba Collection Oversized Chronograph Watch
This Invicta stainless steel men’s chronograph watch wonderfully blends classic timepiece design with a contemporary edge. The textured off-white dial face features angular minute indexes in black mixed with Arabic numerals, as well as two black-outlined chronograph subdials in the center of the dial. The large, round silver stainless steel watch case measures 52mm (2.05 inches) wide with the oversized, grooved crown. It also has Tritnite luminous black-outlined hands (with seconds hand) and a unique date window at three o’clock that displays a range of three dates. Other features include a supple black leather strap with white contrast stitching, scratch-resistant mineral crystal with anti-reflective coating and water resistance to 200 meters (660 feet)–suitable for scuba diving.

Corduba Collection

Invitca’s Corduba will guide you through the hours and days with absolute ease and style. Taking inspiration from classic military looks while catering to ladies and gents alike, the ever-growing collection of Corduba timepieces offer such features as large dials, exhibition case backs, day and date displays, 200 meter water resistance, and special crown protection caps. Slip in and out of time knowing Invicta’s Corduba will be following your moments even when you’re not.

I’ve had my Invicta 3449 Corduba for about a month now and hold the watch in a very positive light. I would consider giving it as a gift. In my opinion, not a “wear-everyday watch”, but a “wear-most-days” watch (most=2/3 of time). I like it a lot and find it aesthetically pleasing when worn. It looks and feels as if there is some good heritage and tradition behind this watch. Not too flashy, but simply and solidly built.

Addressing some other peoples’ complaints with my personal experience:

1. “The watch hands are small and makes it difficult to read the time”

I do agree that Invicta could have made the watch hands larger to make readability better; however, I don’t find any extraordinary effort or annoyance in reading the time. I glance at it and it takes me about 2-4 seconds to find the time.

2. “The watch crown digs into the back of your hand”

I don’t have any issue with this. From what I can conclude, the watch crown digging into the back of your hand can occur from the watch sitting most distally (most toward your fingertips) *AND* if you flex your hand back to touch the crown. If you find your hands flexing back because of whatever you’re doing, you’ll probably have to sit the watch higher on your wrist.

3. “The watch is gaudily big. Flava Flav!”

The watch is big enough to get noticed and when you look at it sitting on your wrists, it seems very big. However, if you look at it in the context of your whole body, you’ll find that it is a large watch but not something unusually out of proportion. I think it looks masculine and youthful (I’m in my 20’s).

4. “Too big that it won’t fit on long sleeve shirts” / “Some issue putting it in pockets”

This is true depending on what kind of long sleeve shirts you wear. All of my long sleeve sweaters, hoodies, and most jackets with flexible wrist ribbing fit over the watch. However, for most of my button-down/collared shirts, the sleeves fit snugly over it and it is a tight fit (but my sleeves doesn’t get stuck. my sleeves will naturally go over the watch again if I raise up my arms and the sleeves move out away from the watch). My collared shirts are medium Express modern fitted (should give you an idea of sleeve size). So, if you want to wear this with a button-down, collared shirt, make sure you have sleeves with some room or consider rolling up your sleeves.

Also, there can be some issue when digging your hands into your pockets if your pockets are deep. The watch may catch or not allow your hand to go into the pocket. If you have to fit your whole hand in your pocket to grab something, consider putting it in your right pocket. I don’t have much issue with this.

5. “Strap is short and stiff”

True. The “calf leather” strap is relatively short and stiff. The only trouble I have with this is putting on/taking off the watch. There are two “holder bands” (like belt loops) that hold the strap in place after you buckle it in. One of them is immobile (it’s sewn onto the band) and the strap must be placed through it. I don’t consider this a big issue. However, if you take off and on your watch a lot, you might find this annoying. You may consider cutting off that first, immobile strap for easier looping through the remaining strap holder.

Some important things to note that weren’t explicit stated so you’re not surprised.

1. It’s “Japan Quartz Movement” and not a “Swiss Movement”. But, the chrono works well enough for me and the watch seems accurate.
2. (Refer to picture). The clock-seconds is kept by the bottom dial (continually runs). The chronograph-seconds is kept by the traditionally seconds-hand that rotates in the same region as the hour and minute hands. This seemed to confuse me for a while until I figured it out (maybe I’m just a noob).
3. Don’t forget to register online to extend your warranty to 5 years for free. Follow instructions on the Amazon.com product page for this special offer.

I will update on durability (like watch face scratchings, case scratchings, leather fading). So far:

1 mo: No scratches or leather band fading with me wearing it daily 5 out of 7 days of the week. No exposure to water yet.

Invicta Men’s 6621 II Collection Chronograph Stainless Steel Blue Dial Watch

Invicta Men's 6621 II Collection Chronograph Stainless Steel Blue Dial Watch
Invicta Men’s Invicta II Chronograph Stainless Steel 6621

With its bold stainless steel case and stylish band, the Invicta Men’s II Collection Chronograph exudes attitude and experience. The watch’s unidirectional segmented bezel features engraved white numbers in five minute increments, which nicely complement the deep cobalt tone of the dial. Bordered by an elegant tachymeter, the dial displays hour indicators in bright white Arabic numerals, as well as hatched minute markers. The face also features subdials with 60-second, 30-minute and day-of-the-week functions. Luminescent arrow hands, a date window at four o’clock, and the esteemed Invicta logo round out this automatic timepiece. This watch arrives in a handsome yellow Invicta gift box and is water resistant to 330 feet.

II Collection

In the wake of up to the minute technology, optimal construction, and a spectrum of inventive design choices you will find the Invicta II collection. Priced to demand attention, no technological or creative rock has been left unturned in order to create such an impeccable example of the ultimate in function and fashion. Invicta II offers a myriad of enticing options including applied indexes, up markers, double-dial dual timers, leather straps, carbon-fiber dials, retrograde chronographs, and moon phase registers. Having fused brains and good looks at a stellar price, the Invicta II is the perfect collection to indulge in all your watch fantasies.

I had been eyeing this watch for awhile now, but the only thing that kept me from buying it were all the reviews regarding the bezel of the watch, and how it was mis-aligned with the 12 o’clock mark at the top. Small detail some would say, but nonetheless, it probably would have bothered me just enough not to like it. In addition, Amazon was out of stock and was only offering this watch through different vendors, so I didn’t want to deal with the hassle of returning it with a 3rd party involved.

Luckily, I was checking out this watch again and saw that Amazon had some in stock!! (3 to be exact..) So I went ahead and decided to make the purchase..Good thing I did too because they ran out the next day!

The package came, and to my relief, the bezel was ALIGNED!! It does have some play to it as other reviewers have mentioned, but otherwise, I completely LOVE the watch. It is rather heavy, but I like my watches that way. I consider myself to have small wrists, and had to remove 6 links to get it to fit correctly. But the end result was a very fine looking watch added to my small collection.
